GREELEY, Colo. : During the 14th Winter Colorado Wildland Fire & Incident Management Academy (CWFIMA) January 7-13, 2012 at Aims Community College in Greeley, Colo., over 800 students and staff attended a week of training, teaching and networking.
A total of 40 different courses were presented including “Incident Leadership for Colorado Fire Department Personnel”. The intent of this training was to provide future leaders of Colorado’s fire departments with the leadership tools needed to serve in Command positions and effectively exert command and control over quickly assembled teams in a time constrained and rapidly changing incident environment. This course was sponsored by a grant from the Fireman’s Fund through the IMA Insurance Group and the Colorado State Forest Service which covered the majority of the tuition fees.
Eighteen students were able to take advantage of this reduced cost course in order to better prepare themselves for leadership positions at all types of emergency incidents including wildfires, tornados, floods and other natural and manmade disasters.
Our thanks to the Fireman’s Fund through the IMA Insurance Group and Colorado State Forest Service for their important contributions so that we could present this valuable course to our emergency response personnel at a reduced cost. We look forward to further opportunities to cooperate with them in order to meet our mission of “Exceeding the Standards”.
